Conservation Specialist
Hi`ipaka LLC, Waimea Valley on the North Shore of Oahu is seeking a Conservation Specialist to assist in the conservation of Waimea Valley's resources by identifying, coordinating and carrying out conservation activities necessary to maintain and manage the Valley's natural resources. This person works under the direction of the Conservation and Botanical Group Managers and the Conservation Field Supervisor and will work with the Botanical Collection Specialist, Horticultural Specialist and other staff to ensure proper identification, preservation and enhancement of resources.
Position Requirements:
· A minimum of two years work experience in land resource management, in conservation field related to native forestry and native ecosystems
· Prior experience with Hawaii conservation issues and knowledge of the use of GPS and GIS
· Ability to map, document, label, maintain, conserve and enhance Waimea Valley's resources, and carry out identified procedures
· Able to carry out conservation activities necessary to maintain and manage the natural resources, including native forest ecosystems, feral animal management, fence installation and maintenance, invasive weed control, endangered species habitat enhancement and propagation of plants
· Able to assist with the development of interpretive tools (signage, brochures, etc.) and work with Conservation Land Manager and Conservation Field Supervisor to develop outreach and educational materials about the ecological and natural resources of the Valley
· Able to assist in providing necessary management and training to volunteers
· Able to hike in steep terrain, and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted
· Maintain records and compile data on relevant conservation matters in accordance with established procedures
· Have a valid Hawaii Driver's License
· Must obtain a valid Hawaii Hunting License within 3 months of start date
Educational Requirements:
Must have a degree in Environmental Science, Resource Management, or related field (or equivalent work experience). Must have a minimum of one year of work experience in land resource management, in a conservation field related to native forestry and native ecosystems. Prior experience with Hawaii conservation issues and knowledge of the use of GPS and GIS is preferred.

This is a full-time position and regular attendance on a daily basis is required. Waimea Valley is a seven-day-a-week operation and some night and weekend work is required.
