The Hawaiʻi Conservation Alliance Foundation is a 501C3 non-profit organization that serves as a backbone organization to support the collaborative work of the Hawaiʻi Conservation Alliance. The Alliance is a partnership of 27 different organizations and agencies that work to conserve and restore the biocultural resources of Hawaiʻi.

Hawaiʻi Conservation Alliance Foundation (HCAF) – Next Generation Program Manager (1.0 FTE)  

The Hawaiʻi Conservation Alliance Foundation (HCAF) is recruiting for a full time Next Generation Program Manager. 

Founded in 2006, the Hawaiʻi Conservation Alliance Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the purpose and mission to support and advance the capacity building, native ecosystem and biocultural conservation work of the Hawaiʻi Conservation Alliance (Alliance) through fundraising, advocacy, and strategic outreach and communications.

The Alliance is a cooperative collaboration of conservation leaders representing twenty-eight government, education, and non-profit organizations working together to provide unified leadership for Hawaiʻi’s most critical conservation issues. Collectively, the Alliance is responsible for managing the biodiversity of Hawaiʻi’s lands and waters. The Next Generation (Next Gen) Program fosters and motivates the next generation of biocultural resource stewards and professionals. We believe healthy native ecosystems depend on a thriving local pool of conservation professionals in Hawaiʻi supported by a conservation workforce system that promotes professional growth and financial stability. The Next Gen Manager will coordinate and implement Alliance project priorities for career pipeline and workforce development within the conservation sector. With HCA staff and committee leadership, the Manger will co-lead the strategic expansion of the HCA Next Gen Program through continuous evaluation of next generation needs and sector priorities and opportunities. The Manager will implement program activities with guidance from the HCA Steering Committee and support from the Nāhululeihiwakuipapa Subcommittee. In coordination with the Nāhululeihiwakuipapa subcommittee and other ʻāina stewardship and education partners, the Next Gen Manager will lead statewide partnerships and implement strategic programming to ensure Hawaiʻi has a diverse, skilled, collaborative, and culturally grounded conservation workforce equipped to mālama native ecosystems for generations to come.

Strong candidates will have experience in project coordination and budget management, building and maintaining partnerships, fundraising, and facilitating action in collaborative settings. We are seeking a self-motivated individual comfortable with working under tight deadlines in a team-oriented work environment that fosters collaboration and requires strong interpersonal skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Co-lead HCA Next Gen Program evaluation, fundraising, reporting, and ongoing partner development.
• Implement HCA strategic goals related to the Nāhululeihiwakuipapa subcommittee.
• Develop agendas and facilitate monthly action items of the Nāhuluhiwakuipapa subcommittee.
• Lead multi-partner strategic activities related to Hawaiʻi conservation workforce development.
• With the Nāhululeihiwakuipapa subcommittee, coordinate and implement student and emerging professionals related programs associated with the Hawaiʻi Conservation Conference.
• Support general Hawaiʻi Conservation Conference planning and implementation.
• Develop program content for various HCAF communication platforms (i.e. social media, newsletters, etc.).
• Monitor and update the Conservation Career Compass website.
• Supervise 1-2 seasonal volunteers, graduate assistants, and potential future program employees
• Conduct high school and college outreach to increase student awareness of and access to conservation career pathways.
• Other duties as assigned

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in natural resources (biology, marine science, natural resources management, etc.), communications, education or a related discipline.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Five years professional experience in education, conservation workforce development, biocultural research and/or management in Hawaiʻi. Related work experience will be evaluated and potentially considered.
• Strong project management skills, including experience in budget tracking and general procurement.
• Demonstrated experience in successful grant seeking and grant writing.
• Ability to build and maintain key effective working relationships with public and private conservation and sector adjacent (i.e. education, technology, etc.) partners in Hawaiʻi.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative to resolve complex problems with aloha (diplomacy and good judgement).
• Excellent notetaking skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), and videoconference and web-based platforms (i.e. Zoom, Google, etc.).
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in natural resources (biology, marine science, natural resources management, etc.), communications, education or a related discipline.
• 3+ years professional experience in conservation career pathways and workforce development.
• Experience managing websites and working with online media content.
• Supportive trainings and coursework or a second or advanced degree in any of the following – Hawaiian Language, Hawaiian Studies, natural resources management, database management, facilitation, or related topics.

Location: Honolulu, Oʻahu. Remote and hybrid work (from within Hawaiʻi only) possible consistent with HCAF policies. Limited inter-island travel will be required. Qualified candidates will need to be available for in-person events, virtual and in-person meetings. 

Reports To: HCAF Executive Director.

FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt. Continuation of employment is dependent upon operational needs, satisfactory performance, and availability of funds.

Salary: $68,000-$80,000 annually plus benefits (health insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, paid holidays). Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
