The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (CIMAR) at the University of Hawaiʻi, in partnership with the NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC), is recruiting for the following position based at the NOAA Inouye Regional Center in Honolulu, HI.
Protected Species Division Data Science Developer (E25)
● The Role: Build the reproducible analytical workflows and data products that turn protected-species monitoring data into usable scientific results. You will develop and automate data analysis pipelines, recurring reports, dashboards, and other tools that support population assessments, monitoring programs, and scientific reporting. Working closely with marine biologists and statisticians, you’ll translate established analytical methods into standardized and reproducible workflows—helping make complex scientific analyses more efficient, transparent, and accessible.
● Key Tech: R, Posit, Quarto, Git/GitHub, Shiny, SQL/relational databases, data visualization and automated analytical pipelines.
● Suggested Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience in data science, data analytics, programming, or a related field, including developing reproducible analytical workflows and automated data-processing pipelines for scientific applications.
● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Quantitative Ecology, Marine Science or related field
● Salary: $5,500-7,000/mo., commensurate with experience

● Schedule: Full-time, exempt.
